An Active Partner in Plant Conservation
Plant conservation is a team effort.
Our team includes public organizations (federal, state, and city
agencies), private organizations, and individuals. Some of our partners
include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management,
U.S. Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy, City of Portland's
Bureau of Environmental Services, Saturday Academy's Apprenticeship
in Science and Engineering (ASE) Program, Open Meadow Learning Center's
Corps Restoring the Urban Environment (CRUE) Program, City of Eugene,
Natural Heritage Program, Lewis and Clark College, Portland State
University, Reed College, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, State of
Hawaii, the US Army, and the Center for Plant Conservation.
We are a charter Participating Institution
in the Center for Plant Conservation. The
CPC is a national conservation organization based at the Missouri
Botanical Garden dedicated to using botanic garden resources to
conserve endangered plants of the United States, and an acclaimed
global leader in the field of off-site plant conservation.
Our partnerships allow us to add seed to the seed bank, perform
scientific experiments on rare plants, produce conferences,
write books on plant conservation, and provide other public education
on issues relating to plant conservation.
Recognized as a Good Team Player In 2000, the Bureau of Land Management
and the US Forest Service honored The Berry Botanic Garden with
their single, joint national Partnership Award for "Outstanding
Achievement in Conservation of Threatened and Endangered Plants."
In 2002, the BBG Conservation Director, Ed Guerrant received the Center
for Plant Conservation Star Award in honor of his concern and commitment
to the conservation of the flora of the United States.
