NEW! Summer Youth Internship 2008
For boys and girls ages 13-15
July 14th-18th
Mon-Fri 10am-2pm
This week-long session will provide students interested in science, plant-life, and conservation the opportunity to learn and work side-by-side with BBG staff. Together they will explore aspects of plant life, sustainable garden practices, conservation, and related environmental challenges. Students will be working with staff on garden projects, student initiated topics, and using the library in conjunction with topics. Topics include:
• Plant conservation-reintroduction of rare plants in the region
• Plant morphology and identification—what is a weed?
• Alpine plants and Rock Gardening
• Germination of Seeds
• Carnivorous Plants and the insects they eat!
Each day includes extended opportunities for hands-on learning, working in the garden and greenhouse, personal attention by our staff, and the opportunity to build friendships with fellow students.
Consistent with the mission of The Berry Botanic Garden we believe it is important that today’s young people develop a realistic understanding of protecting rare and endangered plant species of the Pacific NW and learn about the role that plants play in our everyday life.
