Youth Programs

 

Summer Youth Internship 2008

For boys and girls ages 13-15
July 14th - 18th
Mon-Fri 10am-2pm
Cost per student: $175


This week-long session will provide students interested in science, plant-life and conservation, the opportunity to learn and work side-by-side with the staff of BBG. Together we will explore aspects of plant life, sustainable garden practices, conservation, and related environmental challenges. Students will be working with staff on garden projects, student initiated topics, and using the library in conjunction with topics. Topics include:

    • Plant conservation-reintroduction of rare plants in the region
    • Plant morphology and identification—what is a weed?
    • Alpine plants and Rock Gardening
    • Germination of Seeds
    • Carnivorous Plants and the insects they eat!

Each day includes extended opportunities for hands-on learning, working in the garden and greenhouse, personal attention by our staff, and the opportunity to build friendships with fellow students.

APPLICATIONS

To apply, plus send us the following by June 1, 2008:

    • Your name, address, and phone number
    • The name of your school and your science teacher
    • Please tell us about your interest in biology and in particular your interest in plant life
    • Please include a statement about why you think it is important to preserve native plants.
    • Recommendations: a recommendation is required from your science teacher which can be done directly by email.
